SKisM - Elixir
For whatever reason, I've been avoiding SKisM until today. Probably a few tracks that pushed too close to megatronfuckstep to me. I don't really hate robostep, but I don't think many people do it well...so I was pleasantly surprised to find this song. Feels like I'm on Caprica, d00ds.
You start out in an alien jungle, foreign flora only partially obscuring the ringed gas giant looming in the night sky above. The steaminess of the day has not fully bowed to the cold, and a chilled mist makes visibility difficult. A few bird-like creatures startle from the undergrowth of a nearby tree at :29 and a flash of adrenaline bolts through you. You can hear your heartbeat very clearly, but the world around you is silent. You let out the breath you'd been holding and adjust your hold on your weapon.
Wait, no...suddenly, treetops are creaking and falling from sight. At :54, you catch the beam of light just before you see the shape of the bulky metal constructs behind it. At :57, they charge and fire.
This is like an energy weapon symphony with a bass destroyer leading the charge. You can hear the weapon charging before it fires each salvo. At 1:24 the small guns kick in, but they're nothing compared to the terror machine that came before. You end up scattered and divided, and the cannon comes back at 1:50 to finish the job. There is no escape, but you run.
Interesting, powerful piece. Would love to hear this dropped live.
