Sub Focus - Smooth // Sub Focus - Coming Closer

The other day it was suggested I post some Sub Focus, so I got to thinking about what about him really did it for me.  After a bit of rooting around I came to the conclusion that I couldn't pick just one tune, so let's go back in time a bit for a Sub Focus double feature.  Chill time after the jump, gogogo!

This is a truly refreshing tune that epitomizes his liquid sound.  Gorgeous, rich, and above all: smooth.  The feathery synths lift you high, not a single stab out of place.  I can't say much more about this tune without sounding redundant, but if you've never given Sub Focus a listen, this is the one to check out first.  It makes the world feel right again.

This track is a haunting oddity, the sort of beautiful thing that happens when Sub Focus makes a foray into the dub world.  The unsettling wail at the beginning is startled into silence as the bass enters at :27, giving the vocalist time to move in, our conductor on this trip.  Enter the rabbit hole at 1:22, and we fall through to a strange new world.  As we're ferried by wobble over the next two minutes of track, the absent conductor re-enters, speaking as though from within our minds.  The words he's saying are not as important as the way he is saying them, keeping time with the dark waters of the LFO while the eerie voice from before howls just out of sight.  As we finish our journey, the world suddenly fades to black, all but the disquieting cry gone from our minds.  We awaken confused, suddenly alone.

Fucking unique piece from an excellent artist.  All hail Sub Focus, man.  Truly one of the masters.
